Description
Ebastel Tablets 10mg (POM)
Product Overview
Ebastel 10mg tablets are a modern, effective antihistamine designed for the relief of allergic conditions. Each round, white, film-coated tablet contains Ebastine 10 mg, a selective H1 receptor blocker that provides long-lasting relief from allergy symptoms without causing significant drowsiness or anticholinergic effects. With once-daily dosing and a safe cardiac profile, Ebastel is a trusted option for patients with allergic rhinitis, chronic urticaria, and allergic dermatitis.
Pharmacological Properties
Ebastine works by selectively blocking histamine H1 receptors, the key drivers of allergy symptoms such as sneezing, itching, watery eyes, runny nose, and hives. Unlike some older antihistamines, Ebastine does not significantly enhance alcohol sedation and has minimal risk of causing drowsiness, allowing patients to continue with daily activities. Its long action (over 24 hours) makes it suitable for once-daily use, with symptom relief noticeable within 1 hour and lasting beyond 48 hours.
Pharmacokinetics
After oral administration, Ebastine is rapidly absorbed and metabolised in the liver (via CYP3A4) into its active metabolite, carebastine. Peak plasma levels are reached within 2.6–4 hours, with a half-life of 15–19 hours. Steady-state concentration is achieved in 3–5 days. The drug is primarily excreted in urine and shows consistent results in elderly patients as well as those with mild to severe renal impairment. In severe liver impairment, the maximum recommended dose is 10 mg daily.
